Megan's Disney dream is coming true at last
A young carer and her wheelchair-bound mum are looking forward to their dream holiday in Disneyland Paris.
Back in October we launched Megan's Appeal and asked you to dig deep in a bid to raise enough money to send nine-year-old Megan Beardshaw, her wheelchair-bound mum Alison and a carer on the magical holiday.
Thanks to your generosity the trip is now booked and the pair are looking forward to a wonderful four-day holiday at the French resort in September.
Megan lost dad Paul to cancer two years ago and since then the little girl has been a full-time carer for Alison, who suffers from a raft of medical problems, including having only one leg.
Megan goes to Spalding's Monkshouse Primary School but when she is not at school she is vacuuming, dusting, feeding the dog Spike, dressing Alison's leg or doing any number of other things to help her mum.
Thanks to incredible support we hit the 2,500 target within two weeks of launching the appeal and now Alison has been able to book her and Megan's first trip abroad together.
With help from another carer, the holiday will give them the chance to spend some quality time together.
Megan is very excited about the trip and can't wait to meet her favourite Disney character Pluto.
She said: "The thing I'm most looking forward to is all the rides."
Alison said: "This holiday will give us something to look forward to and it means we will be able to spend some quality time together.
"Things are a bit tough sometimes but Megan keeps me going.
"When the appeal was launched, the first couple of days were a bit of a whirlwind and I couldn't believe it when I found out how much had been raised in the first week.
"The support we have had has been incredible."
Off the back of the huge success of Megan's Appeal, we have now launched the Lincolnshire Free Press Children's Fund.
The fund will help disadvantaged children and those who need help with other things, such as sports equipment, or musical instruments.
The Lincolnshire Free Press Children's Fund will be open to anyone under the age of 18 who lives within our coverage area.
When the fund reaches 5,000 we will invite people to apply to the board of trustees for grants and every application will be considered.
Please continue to support us.
Cheques can still be made payable to Megan's Appeal and all donations should be either care of the Lincolnshire Free Press, Priory House, The Crescent, Spalding, PE11 1AB, or paid directly into Barclays Bank, sort code 20-80-78, account number 60972789.
