Macmillan benefits from sipping coffee

A coffee morning raised £1,000 for a cancer support charity.

Organised by the Rotary Club of East Elloe and held at St Matthew's Church, Sutton Bridge, the event was well supported.

Club members presented a cheque to Gemma Dixon, fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support, at a luncheon at Whaplode Manor.

Gemma gave a short talk on Macmillan and its work.

Vice-president Colin Tavner said: "It was very interesting. Most people think of Macmillan nurses but don't realise how much other work the organisation does.

"We always support local charities and agreed to make this donation to Macmillan after being assured that the money would remain in Lincolnshire.

"It's a great cause. Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer in one way or another."

In the past the club has supported Cancer Research and the Jenny Freeman Lodge in Spalding.
