A restaurant in Whaplode has been badly damaged after a lorry crashed into it on August Bank Holiday Monday.

The crash happened at the Spice Cottage Indian restaurant in High Road where an articulated lorry left the road and ran into the building at about 9pm.

A 69-year-old man from Spalding who was driving the lorry suffered minor injuries and a water main at the restaurant was damaged.

Anglian Water are carrying out repairs to the water supply today and the road was closed for more than seven hours while the lorry was recovered.

However, no customers inside the restaurant at the time of the crash were hurt.
