Last chance for man who harassed his ex

A man who harassed his ex partner by sending notes and following her in his car was given his “final chance” by Spalding magistrates on Thursday.

Nicholas Cartlidge (24) appeared for sentence having previously admitted breaching a restraining order by going to Law Court, Spalding, and harassing his former partner, Natalie Whitbourn, by sending her notes and twice following her in a car – including once to her home address.

Both offences date back to September last year.

He was sentenced to 12 months supervision by the probation service with a requirement to attend a thinking skills programme.

Cartlidge, of Welbeck Drive, Spalding, was also given a two-year restraining order to stop him contacting Ms Whitbourn or communicating with her except through solicitors or during the course of family proceedings.

He must also pay £100 costs.

Presiding magistrate Jenny James told Cartlidge that the court had considered prison as a sentencing option.

Mrs James said: “This really is a final chance for you, Mr Cartlidge.”

David Beal, prosecuting, said the messages sent to Ms Whitbourn were not of themselves offensive, but she wanted no communication with him.

Solicitor Andrea Clarke, mitigating, said the background to the case was that Cartlidge was “desperate to see his eight month old child”.

She said: “He accepts it is harassment or capable of being deemed that way by her.”
