It’s the circus life for Will as big top beckons

Waiting for Video...

Running away to the circus is something many of us feel like doing sometimes – but for a 22-year-old Spalding man it’s a dream come true.

This week Will Hare joins Jay Miller’s Circus in Bournemouth to perform his Chinese pole and Diablo act before hundreds of families in the big top.

Spotted riding through town on his unicycle by our photographer, no-one guessed this is what the chef had up his sleeve.

Former Spalding Grammar School pupil Will, of Park Road, said: “I didn’t always want to join the circus – in fact, when I was at school I didn’t really know what I wanted to do.

“But the opportunity came when I was 19 and out of work. I’d done a lot of jobs all over the place but nothing really made me want to do it forever.

“A small circus was taking people on at Diss in Norfolk and it seemed like an interesting thing to do.

“I learned my skills there and then joined Circus Ferrel in 2011 touring all over Norfolk and Suffolk.

“Last year, I was touring the West Midlands with Pinders Circus.”

However, joining the circus was no surprise to his family.

Will said: “When I was about ten I spotted a unicycle in a shop and convinced my mum to buy it because it just looked fun.”

For the past four months he has worked at Frankie and Benny’s in Springfields to fill in the time between the April to October tours.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to getting back to the circus. It’s in my blood now – I just love performing to a live audience.

“That’s what keeps me going back time and time again.”
