Increase in Holbeach precept
Holbeach Parish Council has agreed a ten per cent rise in the amount residents will pay in council tax for the coming year.
At a meeting on Monday, members voted for a precept of £56.66 on an average Band D property in 2013-14 to pay for services such as allotments, cemeteries, parks and grants for community groups.
This compares with last year’s annual precept of £49.96, although a change in the way it is calculated over the last 12 months would have made it £50.78 in today’s terms.
The parish council is looking to fund net spending of £188,585 and the new precept represents less than half a per cent of a householder’s total council tax bill.
Members hope to finalise their budget for the coming year by the end of January and have already agreed on cutting spending by almost £11,000 on areas including grass cutting, cemeteries and Holbeach’s CCTV system provided by South Holland District Council.
Coun Paul Brighton, finance committee chairman, said: “We agreed an increase of 10 per cent on the precept which is between £5 and £6 a year on a Band D property.
“We’ll make more savings to deal with the budget, but we’ve reluctantly got to increase the precept.”
