Gypsy camps shortlist sparks debate

More South Holland residents have come together to join the debate on where travellers' camps should be located in the district.

Villagers in Quadring and Surfleet have both held public meetings where residents attended en masse to protest after potential sites were named in their areas.

A public consultation on the matter is due to end on Wednesday, November 7, after which South Holland District Council cabinet will meet to discuss the comments made.

The shortlist drawn up of potential gypsy and traveller sites includes:

Low Gate/Eaudike Road, Quadring (P)

North of A152 Surfleet (off Bendyke Lane) (S)

East of A16 Spalding Bypass (Spalding Marsh) (P/S)

East of A16 Spalding Bypass (Drain Bank) (P)

West of Holbeach (A151) (P)

A1101, north of Tydd St Mary (P)

Off Centenary Way, Wingland, Sutton Bridge (S)

Cranmore Lane, Holbeach (P)

Key – P = permanent camp; S = stopping place
