Girl power wins the day on school walk

A girl of six mounted a clean-up campaign after finding her walk to school littered with dog poo.

Grace Munton-Hague put up her own posters asking dog owners to be more considerate as they exercise their pets in an alleyway off Bramley Lane, Market Deeping.

After hearing about Grace’s efforts to make the area cleaner, South Kesteven District Council stepped in to help and put up some official signs close to the alleyway – and that has seen the amount of dog mess reduced.

Council environmental protection team leader Pete Rogers met Grace and her mum, Louisa Crowson, on Wednesday to thank them for highlighting the problem and to show them where they council signs are sited.

Louisa said: “We are really happy that SKDC have responded so quickly and I hope the signs make a difference to the problem in the area.

“It’s great that Grace has been listened to.”

The council’s portfolio holder for green, healthy and arts, Coun John Smith, said: “We’re always keen to listen and react positively when residents raise issues that affect their surroundings.

“Hopefully these new signs will help warn dog owners in the area of their responsibilities and help us as an authority to keep one of our pledges to being clean, green and healthy.”

The pathway is a busy route used by many local walkers.
