Ghost hunter wants to explore Ayscoughfee

A Spalding spiritualist wants to conduct a scientific experiment in Ayscoughfee Hall to find out for sure if it is haunted or not.

Stewart Bradley, who is a member of the UK Paranormal Society, says he believes there are at least four spirits at the town's tourist attraction - one in the hall and three in the gardens.

He said: "I've had a walk around the gardens but it's very difficult to tell how many spirits are there because everyone has their own spirits with them. If there are a lot of people around, there will are a lot of spirits."

Medium Stewart is convinced that one of the spirits is around the ice house in the gardens.

He added: "I did detect spirits in certain areas of the gardens where there were no people and one place where there was a lot of activity was the ice house.

"It was particularly cool as you would expect but something was thrown at me, which I took as validation that someone was there."

Ayscoughfee Hall, now a museum and tourist information centre, has a history dating back to early mediaeval times.

In the past staff at the hall have reported feeling a ghostly presence around the rooms and galleries, which used to be home to the late Maurice Johnson and his family.

Stewart now wants to conduct an overnight investigation at the hall and gardens using specialist scientific equipment to answer the question once and for all.

He said: "I have spoken to the UK Paranormal Society and it is very interesting in conducting an investigation.

"We would like to try and contact the spirits and interact with them to find our the facts about who they are and what they are doing at Ayscoughfee."
