George shows real talent in Spalding
GEORGE Barnett proved Polka Dot has Talent when he scooped the £1,000 top prize at the South Holland Centre.
The 16-year-old from Weston saw off the challenge of Ash Kerkhof, and Ash and Paul Spencer as a double act, to claim the top prize of a grand.
In total Polka Dot Academy acts ranging in age from 16 down to three had proved their singing and dancing skills at the Spalding venue, performing a range of songs from Il Divo to Michael Buble to Take That.
In addition four other acts who had been eliminated in the semi-final stage also performed in a memorable night sponsored by Springfields.
The five judges were Springfields' Tracy Turnell, last year's winner Josie Clifton, Gleed Girls Technology College's Chris Ringrose, professional actor Phil Norton, and Spalding Guardian reporter and general nasty piece of work John Baker.
They were kept in the dark as much as the audience until compere Duncan Wright announced George had won to wild applause.
The competition came in the midst of a busy time for the academy with several new classes, a performance on a luxury cruise ship, and a Billy Elliot show in the London West End.
But Polka Dot Academy's general manager Richard Swords said: "The standard was unbelievable and everyone said it was a fab night.
"We are already trying to make next year's event even bigger – we want 50 acts."
