MORE than £5,300 has been added to a fundraising pot to help soldiers and veterans following a fun day in Fleet.

Military vehicles, re-enactment groups, veterans’ groups and a variety of other stands and stalls were on offer at the Anglia Motel’s fun day.

Visitors travelled from as far as Scotland and Portsmouth to join in the activities in aid of Help for Heroes and the Normandy Veterans’ Association.

Musical entertainment for the weekend was provided by country and western band Hole In The Wall Gang, while crowds were treated to a flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Anglia Motel owner Harold Payne said: “It’s one of the best shows we have ever had.

“The Lancaster did four flypasts and it was so low you could wave to the pilot.”

So far this year, the Anglia Motel has collected £10,500 for charity.

Members of the Royal British Legion in Long Sutton also handed over £435 towards the total from the proceeds of a darts tournament.

The next event at the Anglia Motel will held between August 27 and 29.

Visitors are being invited to take their tents and caravans and stay for free.

A car boot sale will be held on both the Saturday and Sunday.
