Five tonnes of reeds on fire in Spalding

Firemen using water from a pond put out a fire involving five tonnes of dried reeds in Spalding yesterday.

It happened when on land off West Marsh Road where waste reeds had been pulled out and left to dry on the banks of the River Welland.

One fire crew from Spalding used a pump with water from a nearby pond to out the fire and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the moment but the watch manager from Spalding Fire Station inspected the scene earlier today to make sure it was safe.
