Farm's turbine trial

A POWER company is planning to carry out tests to discover the viability of building a new wind farm in Holbeach Hurn.

Scottish Power has submitted a planning application to build a 70m tall temporary meteorological mast on land north of Manor Farm, owned by major farm company A H Worth & Sons.

The mast will be used to collect wind speed and direction data, which would then be used to assess the potential energy yield of a wind farm on the site.

The company said at this stage no decision has been made as to the possible number of turbines that could be placed on the site as it is liable to change depending on the results from the mast.

Scottish Power spokesman Derek Christie said: “We put the masts up as part of the development process as it’s the only way we can establish wind speed and then from there we can look at what’s possible on the site.”

The application site is a hew hundred yards from the Gedney Marsh wind farm which is made up of six turbines at Red House Farm.

Holbeach Hurn landowner Duncan Worth said the scheme is at an extremely early stage and that a lot of consultation will have to be carried out before any wind farm could be built.
