Elderly driver rescued after crash in Gedney

A 78-year-old woman had to be rescued from her car after it crashed into a lamppost on a road in Gedney.

The woman from Bourne was driving a grey Mercedes 170 when it collided with an electricity pole in Main Road at about 2.20pm on Sunday.

Fire crews from Holbeach and Long Sutton released the trapped woman who was unhurt and made the car safe by disconnecting its battery.

Police had to cordon off the area because of damage to the lamppost and electricity wires lying across the road which was eventually reopened just after 4pm.
