Drivers face long delays on roads

ROADWORKS in Holbeach and Whaplode are causing havoc for motorists.

Drainage and footpath works have meant Barrington Gate in Holbeach has been closed since June 15.

Work is scheduled to end on Monday, July 13, but in the meantime all through-traffic is being forced along High Street up to the traffic lights at Market Hill, causing long tailbacks during busy times.

Access to properties and businesses is being maintained while works near the mill, take place.

Drivers are being diverted along Station Street, Church Street and High Street.

At the same time a five-week scheme to repair two sections of the A151 between Spalding and Holbeach is causing major daytime queues at Whaplode.

The resurfacing scheme started on June 1 at Weston focusing on the roundabout near Baytree Nurseries Garden Centre.

Now that phase has been completed Lincolnshire County Council's highways team has begun work on a section of the A151 between Wallis Gate, in Whaplode, and the A151/A17 link road roundabout at Holbeach, with work due to end tomorrow.

Temporary traffic lights are in place and a convoy system is being used to get traffic through safely but some motorists have reported journey times of 50 minutes between Spalding and Long Sutton.
