A man (58) from Gedney Dyke was taken to hosital with fractured ribs in a car crash on the A17 at Holbeach.

Police said the man suffered a “medical episode” while driving a Ford Fiesta which left the road at its junction with Battlefields Lane just before 7.50pm on Thursday December 19.

The road was closed for more than three hours while firemen using hydraulic rescue equipment cut the man free from the car.

He was then taken to Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, for further treatment and was released the next day.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “The driver is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel but recovered well at Pilgrim Hospital.”

Meanwhile, emergency services were called to a crash on Fleet Road, Holbeach, where a vehicle left the road on Sunday.

It happened just before 10.20am and a Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Crews from Holbeach and Long Sutton made the scene safe and monitored a casualty before paramedics arrived.”

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were notified of the incident shortly before 10.25am on Sunday and we dispatched vehicles to the scene in case medical treatment was required.”
