Teams from five primary schools battled for honours in a tag rugby tournament at Whaplode Primary School on Tuesday.

More than 100 boys and girls took to the field in competitions for years 3-4 and 5-6, which were organised by Holbeach-based school sports company Sport2Day.

Company founder and head coach Sean Hughes said: “It was a really nice day, thoroughly enjoyed by all.

“It’s a non-contact version of rugby so it gives children the experience of the way rugby is played at a bit more accessible level – they don’t have to worry about the contact side of things, they can learn about the teamwork and the skills involved.”

Results for the year 3-4 tournament were: 1 William Stukeley Primary, Holbeach, 2 St Mary’s, Cowbit, 3 St George’s Preparatory School, Boston, 4 All Saints’ Primary, March, 5 Whaplode Primary.

Year 5-6 results were: 1 All Saints’ Primary, 2 William Stukeley, 3 Whaplode, 4 St Mary’s.
