Donington and Holbeach hit by vandals

Vandals have struck in Donington and Holbeach.

Flowers and trees were damaged in Donington and a Holbeach woman had her greenhouse windows smashed for the second time in two weeks.

Donington In Bloom members had been busy re-potting all the tubs in the village with winter flowers but over the last couple of weekends vandals have pulled up the plants.

Pc Paul Wade, of Spalding police, said: "The youths have uprooted the plants and thrown them around. It's just a mindless thing to do.

"There has also been damage in Flinders Park. Sapling trees were broken and there was graffiti on the bandstand. These offences are causing residents and the In Bloom committee considerable distress.

"Most of this seems to happen at night and we are looking at increasing patrols at the weekends especially so we can identify the offenders and deal with them."

Donington In Bloom member Gill Lunn said: "This has caused a lot of disappointment and upset.

"Tubs and planters are being ruined every weekend and it makes you wonder whether it's worth replacing them again.

"It would be nice to see the people who do this made to put the plants back again and then they would appreciate all the work that goes in."

Anyone with information can contact Pc Wade on 07939 984188.

Dorothy James, of Langwith Gardens, Holbeach, had just had her greenhouse fixed when she woke on Saturday morning to find traffic cones from nearby roadworks had been used to smash the glass again.

Mrs James' daughter Lorraine Cooper said: "Mum heard a noise when she was watching the television but when she went to the door she couldn't see anything."

A portable toilet opposite the house was also pushed over on the same night.

Anyone with information should call Spalding police on 01775 722233 quoting incident 150 of November 15.
