David Mickleburgh

David Mickleburgh (69) was killed when his plane crashed at Fenland Airfield, Holbeach St Johns, on Saturday.

Mr Mickleburgh's privately-owned single-seater light aircraft crashed moments after taking off at 11am.

Mr Mickleburgh, of Sutton St James, died at the scene.

He is believed to have issued a mayday call to the airfield as he took off and tried to bring the small plane back onto the runway, but crashed as he did so.

-----------------------------------

I would, through your book of condolences, like to pass on my thoughts and condolences to David's family and friends. As Chief Flying Instructor at Fenland up until June 2008, I would often see David proudly flying his aircraft and popping into the school to check up on the latest weather and safety information. David passed on doing something he obviously loved and I only hope his family can find some solace in that thought.
