Crack recycling to save costs

These egg shells included in a bag of recycling are upping costs to South Holland District Council.
Residents are being urged to make sure they recycle the correct items because the council has to pay £90 per tonne disposal costs for every rejected load.
The council’s recycling rate currently stands at 30 per cent, but this figure can be improved if people put the right items in their green bags for collection. Coun Roger Gambba-Jones, the council’s portfolio holder for waste management, said: “It is estimated that every month 100 tonnes of recycling that the council sends to its processors is contaminated and therefore cannot be recycled.”
