With reference to the front page article in the Spalding Guardian last week, I would like to make a few points in replying.
Last year we enhanced our waste and recycling service in South Holland by introducing collections on bank holiday Mondays, which has benefited the majority of residents in my Spalding Castle ward.
This decision has given us the opportunity to make savings on the South Holland NOW magazine, by reducing it from four editions each year to one issue in December, which advertised our Christmas and new year collection times.
A number of councillors used a small proportion of their ward budget to purchase part of this magazine to provide their contact details and to show some examples of how we spend our designated ward budgets.
In my ward I have provided mountain bikes for the police, purchased new litter bins and supported MENCAP with their work locally. Full details of all expenditure from these budgets is available.
Since the South Holland NOW was delivered, other groups and organisations have approached their councillor to request funding for various projects and good causes.
I can be contacted to discuss this further or to apply for funding for my ward on 01775 718659, email@example.com or twitter @Gary Taylor26.
In a democracy, it’s right and proper that all elected representatives are held to account for their actions and decisions.
I am proud to be part of a council, which, during extremely difficult economic times, has reduced council tax, enhanced its waste and recycling collection services and introduced councillors’ designated ward budgets, to benefit good causes and to support some of the most vulnerable residents in our communities.
Coun Gary Taylor
Spalding Castle ward and portfolio holder for internal services
