Collapsed sewer theory on large crater at Moulton

Waiting for Video...

Villagers in Moulton have been speculating after a huge crater appeared in front of a row of garages.

The site at Moon’s Green has been closed and barricaded off by the owners, South Holland District Council.

A specialist engineer from the council inspected the hole yesterday (Wednesday), but not before some interesting theories by residents.

Some thought the cause of the ground collapsing could have been old salt mines running underneath the village, but a resident who rents one of the garages said it was unlikely.

She said: “It’s unlikely to be an old salt mine because the ground is silt. I first reported a dip in the ground after the heavy rainful last summer. At least my car wasn’t in the garage.”

A district council spokesman said: “Early indications suggest the cause of the hole may be a collapsed sewer.

“We have been in contact with Anglian Water and will, where appropriate, continue to liaise with them to resolve the matter.”
