Citizenship week hits the right note

SPALDING students spent two days planning, preparing and performing a music festival at the grammar school.

As part of the school’s citizenship week year ten pupils split into three groups to look at the technical, performing and media aspects of a musical show, for “Fen Fest 09”.

Ace guitarist and sessions musician Ray Fenwick, of the Ian Gillan Band, came in to help the youngsters hone their skills for a performance to fellow pupils.

Nick Garland, of the first day’s media group, said: “It was a very good experience and allowed everyone to play to their strengths.”

Music ranged from brass band pieces, guitar music and a didgeridoo band and featured an array of different styles of world music.

Performances included a variation on the twelve bar blues, I Miss You by Blink 182 and Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce on Guitar Hero 3.

Day two’s Alex Talbot said: “It’s been exciting because we have been able to interview all the people involved and set up a website.”

Pupils also enjoyed trips to Parliament and the University of Nottingham during the week.
