Business Start-up winner

The award for the best business start-up was won by If Salons, of Holbeach.

Managing director and senior stylist Sharon Talbot started If Salons in August 2007, resolving to offer quality fashionable hairdressing at affordable prices.

The company, based in Holbeach, is constantly developing and has recently expanded into beauty as well as hairdressing.

Boston College has chosen If Salons as its flagship for promoting hairdressing training and apprenticeship schemes in south Lincolnshire.

Sharon said: "We are thrilled to have won the award.

"It's not just for me, it's for my staff as well. Without them none of this would be possible. It was a complete surprise. It's been a really tough time for me lately because my mum has just died and to win this is fantastic."

Judge Paul Waberski, of Brown and Co, said: "One word summarises this business and that is 'focus'.

"There is no doubt that everyone in this business is working together and has a clear idea of what is expected.

"They have also clearly identified their market and are pursuing it with a clear strategy and thoroughly enjoying doing it."
