Emergency repairs are now underway to a collapsed sewer in the car park at Springfields Shopping Centre, but the Spalding retail outlet remains open as normal for business.

Anglian Water spokesman Antony Innes said: “We are very sorry for any disruption and inconvenience which will be caused by this work, especially with a Bank Holiday weekend coming up.

“The collapsed sewer is close to the exit of the main car park and regrettably means a handful of car park spaces may need to be cordoned off during the work.

“We know this is disruptive, however the safety of visitors and customers must come first.”

Engineers are working to make safe the area around the collapse before starting repairs.

Mr Innes said: “We’re in regular conversations with the managers of the centre to do all we can to minimise the impact of this work and see that it is completed as quickly, and safely, as possible.”

The car park entrance/exit is being reconfigured and clearly signed so people can continue to park.
