Bourne school responds to headteacher's alleged MP affair
GOVERNORS of Bourne Abbey Primary School have defended headteacher Cherry Edwards after the Daily Telegraph on Friday alleged she had been involved in an affair with a Conservative MP.
MP David Curry resigned from his position on the Parliamentary Standards and Privileges Committee after a Telegraph article said he had claimed nearly 30,000 in expenses on the Yorkshire second home his wife barred him from using after he had an affair.
Mr Curry admitted the affair and Mrs Edwards was identified in the Telegraph's story as his lover, but this has prompted a defiant response from the school's governors.
A statement read: "The governors and staff of Bourne Abbey Church of England Primary School wish to place on record their wholehearted support and full confident in their headteacher, Mrs Cherry Edwards."
Mrs Edwards declined to comment on the allegations of the affair when asked by the Telegraph but did say she is a "patient and committed wife and mother, and a grandmother as well".
