Blueprint for the future of Holbeach gets council backing

A plan to develop Holbeach both culturally and economically over the next 20 years has received overwhelming backing from parish councillors.

Priorities such as a new roundabout at the A151/A17 Peppermint Junction, a retail area at Chequers Yard and a new heritage centre were endorsed at a parish council meeting last Monday.

The ideas are included in A Strategic Plan for Holbeach 2013-2031, produced by a steering group made up of residents, business leaders and councillors.

It has been produced in line with the Government’s Localism Act 2011 which gives parish and town councils more powers to run services in and for their communities.

Coun Nick Worth, Lincolnshire County Council member for Holbeach and steering group chairman, said: “I am delighted that Holbeach Parish Council has decided to approve the strategic plan for Holbeach.

“This has been put together by members of the steering group and is a vision of how they would like to see Holbeach develop over the next 20 years.

“The timing fits well with the emerging South East Lincolnshire Strategic Local Plan and will ensure that the nine priorities outlined in the strategic plan for Holbeach are taken into consideration.”

Other priorities include new housing and industrial developments, medical facilities and improvements to both University Academy Holbeach and the University of Lincoln’s food manufacturing campus.

Coun Francis Biggadike, district councillor for Holbeach Town and a steering group member, said: “The support from Holbeach Parish Council is welcome and the nine strategic plan priorities will now be given consideration by the committee working on the new Local Plan for the development of South Holland up to 2031.”
