Big savings in second gas and electricity auction

South Holland residents are among 40,000 people who will save an overall average of £121 on their gas and electricity bills this year.

A reverse auction on January 29 involved consumers signing up with groups of councils led by Peterborough City and Greater Manchester.

Scottish Power won all dual fuel and pre-payment categories, Ovo Energy won online billing for electricity only customers and Co-operative Energy won paper billing for electricity only contracts.

Average dual fuel average savings range from £149 for online billing with monthly direct debits to £54 for prepayment bills with key cards.

Average savings for electricity only range from £98 for online billing monthly direct debits to £44 for prepayment bills with key cards.

This is the second reverse auction that South Holland has joined in a project spearheaded by council leader Gary Porter.

Reverse auctions see power companies outbidding one another with their lowest prices.
