Bid to reopen town pub

Spalding’s Black Swan pub closed on Thursday but its owners are looking for someone new to take on the lease.

The pub was leased from Star Pubs and Bars, a division of Heineken UK First Point, by HK Taverns, whose boss Harry Kelly has died.
Terri Mason, who was landlady of the New Road pub, said: “I am very sad that Harry has died and I am sad that the pub has closed.

“We will just see what the future holds for the place. I want to thank all of my customers.”
Fellow New Road publican Pete Williams described the closure as “a big blow to the town centre”.

Star Pubs and Bars spokesman Louise Barrett said: “The situation now is that we want to get the pub back open again so we are looking for a permanent lessee that can take on the lease of the pub and run it as a successful business.

“It’s a traditional community pub in the heart of Spalding and its potential is beyond what it is at the moment.

“We are looking for the right people or the right person to come and run it.”
