Spalding Rotarians are poised to raise thousands of pounds for local good causes – but they need your help to make sure this year’s Two Lips fundraising week is a great success.

Last year’s inaugural event raised a staggering £10,531.40.

And Rotarians are hoping you can beat that this year.

The main good causes for 2013 are Spalding Age UK, St John Ambulance, St Barnabas Hospice Jenny Freeman Lodge and Spalding swimming clubs.

Alan Porter, Spalding Rotary Club’s immediate past president and chairman of fundraising, said each of last year’s main charities benefited from a £2,000 boost.

He said: “We are hoping to exceed last year’s target.”

This year’s Two Lips fundraising week runs from May 11-18.

One of the big highlights is a ball on the final night at Spalding’s Castle Sports Complex.

The ball will feature live music from an Abba tribute band as well as a meal.

The Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian are again holding a quiz night.

There will be bucket rattles in supermarkets Morrisons and Sainsbury’s and, hopefully, a host of other events organised or supported by local businesses.

Rotarians are entering a Two Lips float in this year’s last ever Flower Parade and they will launch Two Lips with a market stall on May 11.

Rotarian John Barnes said: “Support from the public last year was absolutely fantastic.

“If any clubs or societies or schools want to put an event on, we would be very happy to hear from them. Some of the schools raised money for us last year by holding events like non uniform days.”
