Be bold as brass and learn to play with band

Holbeach Town Band is sounding the call for more people to get to grips with learning to play a brass instrument.

The band is holding its popular annual Learn to Play Week in August – the seventh year members have staged the event.

Once again the band will welcome people of all ages to try their hand at playing brass at the band's headquarters in Back Lane, Holbeach, from Monday, August 4, to Friday, August 8, from 2pm until 4pm.

Learn to Plat Week has been arranged to coincide with the school holidays in the hope that cmore hildren will go along.

Musical director Mel Hopkin said: "If you have ever thought about learning to play a brass instrument or if you have played in the past and would like to try again, this is the perfect opportunity.

"The band's experts will be on hand to show you how to play a wide range of brass instruments – cornet, tenor horn, baritone, euphonium, trombone and tuba.

"The band will be able to teach you how to play an instrument and how to read music. You can return as often as you like during the week but will you get the most benefit from attending every day."

During the week there will be a series of lessons on playing, cleaning and maintaining instruments, reading music, playing rhythms and conducting.

The band room will also open in the mornings of Learn to Play Week for people to have a 30-minute session with Mr Hopkin, which must be booked

Longer term training is offered through the band's learner and improver sessions on Wednesdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
