A BUS driver for the Peele Community College in Long Sutton took first prize at the Lincolnshire Driver of the Year Awards in the bus category.

Stephen Eaton, of W H Fowler and Sons Travel, based in Holbeach Drove, was nominated by pupils from the school in the Lincolnshire County Council run awards and he received a plaque, certificate, a 50 voucher and a VIP day at RAF Cranwell.

South Holland drivers were also involved in other categories too, with Fred Fletcher of Phil Haines’ Coaches nominated by pupils from Spalding’s Priory School.

Bill Wood and Helen Sibson, of Spalding’s Smart Cabs, were also runners up in the taxi driver’s category following nominations by children from Bourne’s Willoughby School and St Paul’s Primary School respectively.

Coun William Webb, executive member for highways and traffic, said: “These awards, and their popularity with our schools, illustrate how fortunate Lincolnshire is to have so many careful and skilled drivers.”
