Children across South Holland will have a smile on their faces when they wake up on Christmas morning to find Santa has paid them a visit.

And for some who would have been facing a miserable Christmas morning without and toys to unwrap, that smile will be down to you – Spalding Guardian and Lincolnshire Free Press readers who supported our Give a Gift Appeal to collect toys for deprived children in our community.

Santa’s little helpers have now gone into overdrive to ensure that the hundreds of toys you donated to our Give a Gift Appeal are wrapped and delivered in time for the big day.

As well as kind donations at our offices, hundreds of you have also been giving at toy appeal partners Beales department store and We’ll Let Your House.

And we have been totally overwhelmed by your generosity, as the new and pre-loved toys came flooding in.

Harry Drury, of We’ll Let Your House, said: “It has been unbelievable – people have been so generous.

“It means dozens of children whose parents could not afford to buy them presents will still have something to unwrap on Christmas morning.”

As well as individual donations, we have also been supported in our efforts by a donation of shopping vouchers and chocolate selection boxes from the team at Bakkavor’s West Marsh Road site staff shop, as well as toys and £340 cash from Spalding-based Karsten UK Ltd.

The cash donations have been added to the contributions of £50 each from the Lincolnshire Free Press and We’ll Let Your House and £100 from Beales and staff will go on a shopping spree to buy even more toys.

Rhona Pieczka, manager at Beales, said: “It has been a pleasure to be part of this appeal and we wish to thank all that have taken part.

“What an honour to be part of such a close and generous community. I am new to the town and realise that Spalding is a great place to be.

“I hope that the children and families who receive these toys will enjoy them.

“Some of those who have donated have put a great deal of thought and effort into making this a success.”
