Agonising choice for youth award judges

JUDGES agonised over their choices in what was a close contest in the Crowland Parish Council Youth Awards.

A panel of parish councillors marked around 40 nominations in two categories – under 13s and 13 to 18 year olds – which recognised the achievements and contribution made by the town’s youths.

Winner in the upper age category was 14-year-old Carl Goodman, who was nominated by Spalding Grammar School for his work on the school council and his fundraising for charity.

Second was Zoe Stanojevic (16), who was nominated by an elderly neighbour for being a “caring and thoughtful young lady”, and third-placed Tegan Dunn (17), nominated by a teacher for her work with animals.

Winner of the under 13s category was Tommy Goodman (9), who was nominated by his private tutor after he overcame a difficult start to his education to make great strides in recent times.

Second was Charley Wright (7), put forward for her work with Crowland Amateur Dramatics, and third was Kimberley Lane (11), who was nominated for her achievements playing ice hockey.

The winners were presented with a cheque for 75 by council chairman Geoff Quince at a ceremony at St Guthlac’s School on Monday, with the runners-up receiving 50 and third-place winning 25.
