A fitting farewell to fun-loving Daniel

FAMILY and friends of a fun-loving 15-year-old said goodbye in a funeral fitting to his quirky character.

Holbeach teenager Daniel Hornby died of a lung infection after a battle with a rare form of leukaemia and mum Rachel O'Reilly wanted to put-on a funeral that celebrated his life.

There were several eye-catching additions to the service to help make it a memorable send-off, including Daniel's coffin shaped like his treasured pink Nokia mobile phone.

The last message Daniel sent to his grandad David was on the screen of the phone as a mark of theirclose friendship.

Services at All Saints Church in Holbeach and Peterborough Crematorium were full of family and friends, who knew him as Chinny, and guests were encouraged to wear something pink, his favourite colour.

Several of Daniel's favourite songs were played at the crematorium.

The cortege included a 16-seat stretch Hummer and three limousines. Guests were given an order of service including a poem from his grandad, who spoke at both services, and a selection of text messages between the two.

A DVD with video and pictures of Daniel was also handed out.

Rachel said: "People have just said to me how fantastic it was and lots of people have left tributes to him on the Internet. It was a brilliant send off for him."

His flowers came back from the crematorium to All Saints Church for friends and family to be able to see and people were invited to Mansion House in Holbeach in the afternoon to share their funny stories of Daniel's life.

l Rachel has set up a page for him at www.gonetoosoon.org which at the time of going to press had 110 tribute messages.
