A team of joggers in neon blue tutus and wigs made a big splash for Holbeach on the Great Eastern Run last month.

Holbeach Ladies Circle (for women aged 18 to 45) made the effort of completing thehalf-marathon because of members’ commitment to the Miscarriage Association, raising nearly £1,500 in sponsorship for the charity.

The team of three members along with friends kept pace with the Holbeach circle’s chair Clare Johnson-Smith, who has been in constant pain all her adult life with a spinal condition. She walked the 13.1 miles on crutches.

She said: “We were passionate about raising awareness of the Miscarriage Association as it’s a hidden problem that causes so much distress for couples yet is not often talked about.

“Women often feel it’s something almost to be ashamed of so they don’t tend to talk about miscarriages even though they profoundly affect your life. I know because I’ve been there.

“It’s this year’s official charity for Ladies Circles nationally and so was a good opportunity for us. We wore the brightest colour we could to get it out the re and draw attention to our tee-shirts publicising the charity.”

Holbeach Ladies Circle has varied in numbers since it was started nearly 30 years ago and now has five members under 45 and six over-age active associate members.

Meetings are held at each other’s houses but mostly activities involve going out fulfilling the Circles’ three aims of Fun, Friendship and Fundraising.
