THE Olympic spirit continued in Spalding on Friday when members of the Budokai Black Belt Academy held the closing ceremony of their karate-lympics.

About 40 medals were presented to members aged from five to about 40 who had taken part in martial arts-related activities over the previous couple of weeks at Spalding Common.

Karate teacher Eddie Bennetto said: “They were not fighting each other but doing lots of different exercises that tested their speed, stamina and skills, such as a relay punch, running through hula hoops and over obstacle courses and demonstrating how many kicks they could perform in a minute, a little bit like they used to do in the ancient Olympic Games.”
