Bourne Grammar School has been named by School Sport Magazine as one of the top 30 best State Schools for Sport for 2013.
This inaugural list recognises schools that provide excellent competitive opportunities for their pupils as well as high achievement across a range of 20 different sports.
It honours those that take competition seriously, rather than those who have excelled in one sport.
Head of PE Chris Ray said: “This is a remarkable achievement for the department, students and school that recognises the many hundreds of additional hours of coaching and guidance that the department have given in recent years.
“It is the culmination of much hard work by staff and students alike.”
Sport at Bourne is focussed on supporting and encouraging all students and, with a steady change in emphasis from participant to leader as students progress through the school, students have the opportunity to find their niche.
Bourne Grammar’s headteacher Jonathan Maddox said: “As it continues its expansion the school is on top form, as shown by our fabulous exam results, our place in Tatler’s list of the country’s top 20 state secondary schools and now this wonderful accolade.”
