SPALDING’S over 60s are turning into a high-tech community, thanks to the Gleed Girls’ Technology College.
The school has been running sessions in ICT specifically aimed at the over 60s since last year, with as many as ten people becoming familiar with computers and email at a time under the watchful eye of school network manager Ray Wharrie.
“They feel very relaxed and that they are in a safe learning environment,” said the school’s Caroline Battong. “It turns out some of them have access to computers but don’t necessarily know how to use them.”
She explained that the courses began last year as part of an Age UK funded initiative, and continue as part of the school’s extended services to the community. Two-hour sessions are held on Tuesdays in three-week blocks. The next one starts on Tuesday, May 10.
