boost your employability

Volunteering can boost your employability and give you an edge when you are searching for a job.

A survey by TimeBank through Reed Executive shows that among 200 of the UK’s leading businesses:

• 73 per cent of employers would employ a candidate with volunteering experience over one without;

• and 94 per cent of employers believe that volunteering can add to skills.

If you are looking for work and attend Spalding Job Centre for two mornings every week we have a member of staff from Spalding Volunteer Centre working from the Job Centre who would be delighted to help you look for a suitable volunteering opportunity.

Volunteering is an excellent way to attain work experience as it can translate into similar job roles. A volunteering role can restore your routine, widen your social circle and upgrade your training and skills which may help with your job search as it can be added to your CV – a current CV is much more attractive and volunteering can fill a gap.

If you would like to speak to the Volunteer Centre at Spalding Job Centre either tell your advisor who can make an appointment or please call 01775 718008 and we can arrange the meeting for you.

Volunteering Opportunities

This month we are looking for volunteers for the Chain Bridge Forge Museum. This award-winning museum in Spalding cannot run without its volunteers and they really need people who can help them with the following roles: virtual craft simulator (VCS) volunteer – this exciting opportunity is a project in conjunction with the University of Lincoln and uses new technology including 3D printing to replicate the work of the blacksmith. They also need history research assistants to record the history of the forge, museum guides to show visitors around the museum and a management and marketing volunteer who will assist with the running, management and promoting the forge.
