THE sound of hymns and readings filled the air in Long Sutton on Friday as part of an annual walk of witness celebration.

Some 70 members of the community joined together for the event, which was organised by Long Sutton Baptist Church and St Mary’s Church.

Those taking part took it in turns to carry a cross through the town. Their journey took them through the church yard, past the Cenotaph and to the Co-operative store in the town.

The congregation stopped at several points along the way to listen to readings from a number of different people and to take part in prayers and hymns.

A number of passers-by also stopped to join in the outdoor service.

Father Jonathan Sibley said the walk was well received and well attended by the community.

He said: “It’s been a very good Easter and we have had lots of different people involved.

“Thank you to everyone who took part in the run up to the Holy week and Easter.”
