GUARDIAN ANGEL: The latest from our girl about town...

Angel could not believe what she saw when she looked out of the window of Guardian Towers at 5pm on Tuesday – two ladies on horseback trotting merrily down The Crescent. Now, Angel loves horses and always slows down her chariot when approaching them. But just before Spalding’s version of the rush hour, on a busy street? And, friends say the riders were later spotted riding in the same direction but on different sides of the road.

*One of the Guardian reporters had reason to call our 2014 Primary School of the Year, Spalding Parish, on Wednesday, and was delighted to hear the voice of a confident young pupil on the answerphone. What a lovely idea – certainly made Angel smile.

*There are some things in life that just have to make people smile and one of them has to be the lady spotted by Angel in Spalding market place pushing a trolley decorated with what looked like dozens and dozens of meerkats.

*Angel was doubtful when she heard stories about a promised Indian summer – we have had our hopes raised and dashed before on the topic of the English weather. However, she has to admit that Saturday on the Norfolk coast was nothing short of idyllic.

*Incidentally, on the journey to Norfolk, driving along the A17, Angel was impressed by the wonderful display of dahlias of every colour and description. Well done to whoever takes the trouble to make sections of our road-sides so delightful.

*Angel is positively spreading good-will this week. She was strolling along a busy Spalding road and noticed there was no logic to the house numbers... so well done to posties everywhere.
