The annual VJ parade and service takes place in Ayscoughfee Gardens in Spalding on Sunday.

A dwindling number of World War 2 veterans, dignitaries from South Holland District Council and members of the public will be commemorating Victory over Japan Day and the end of the war.

Frank Thompson, chairman and secretary of Spalding & District Remembrance Association, said standard bearers would line up for the short parade to the memorial gardens at 2.30pm, followed by a service conducted by Dr Peter Gorton at 3pm.

Mr Thompson said: “We get quite a lot of veterans and a lot of people, but it’s slowing with the veterans as I’m afraaid they are getting old.”
