A CHARITY helping South Holland families through tough times has showcased its work done with Lottery cash of almost £300,000.

Home-Start South Holland welcomed guests from the health and voluntary sectors, as well as district and county councillors, to its annual general meeting at Weston Village Hall.

Staff from the charity showed guests the support offered to parents struggling to cope with raising children in an economic downturn.

Home-Start South Holland was formed in June 2005 and its work was boosted in April 2008 with a grant of just under £283,000 over five years from the Big Lottery Fund.

The cash has been used to fund volunteers who visit parents in their homes to give advice on physical and emotional issues and help with looking after their children.

Mary Hutson, senior co-ordinator for Home-Start South Holland, said: “We are looking for support from the local community and actively seeking to recruit new trustees to support us with our future plans so that we can continue this vital work in supporting young families.”
