Home-Start South Holland is delighted that the Big Lottery Fund has awarded the organisation continuation funding for the next five years.
Since the scheme was set-up in 2008 , it has been offering support to local families.
The successful Reaching Communities bid will enable the service to continue to support 35 local families each year through home-visiting support.
The project is called ‘Parents Supporting Parents’, which highlights the essential ingredient that volunteers play in providing this support.
Volunteers visit and befriend families with young children in their own homes, offering tailored emotional and/or practical support for as long as is needed.
Furthermore, Home-Start have also secured funding for 12 months, through the Mental Illness Prevention Fund, to target those parents who are also combating mental illness, which impacts on their parenting and family enjoyment.
With these two successful outcomes and other funding streams Home-Start is hoping to maintain a service which can support between 55-65 families each year.
Senior co-ordinator Mary Hutson, said: “This is fantastic news for families in South Holland, where services are limited or difficult to access.
“The forthcoming months will be busy as we celebrate our news.”
Home-Start’s annual meeting is on Friday, December 6, where we would welcome interested members of the community.
There is an information session for prospective home-visiting volunteers on Tuesday in Holbeach.
Mary added: “We are also looking to expand our team of trustees and would welcome interest from people particularly with a finance background.”
