THE long-running saga over a clerk to Holbeach Parish Council had a new twist this week with council chairman Coun Rita Rudkin revealing he left in June.
Granville Hawkes has not been seen at council meetings at all this year and all discussions on his role with the council have been held behind closed doors.
The council excluded the public and press at the end of its meeting on Monday to discuss issues including “staffing”.
Speaking to the Spalding Guardian yesterday, Coun Rudkin said: “Mr Hawkes isn’t with the council. He left on June 24.”
Asked why, Coun Rudkin replied: “He just left.”
When asked if Mr Hawkes gave a reason Coun Rudkin said: “He preferred a job elsewhere, presumably.”
Mr Hawkes, who works in South Holland for Business Link, told us: “If there is anything to be said I suggest you need to talk to the parish council, really, other than that I have no comment.”
l In March this year the then parish council chairman, Coun Terry Harrington, revealed that Mr Hawkes – who had not attended meetings for several months at that stage – was not being paid. And in December last year Coun Harrington said Mrs Jill Harrington had been reinstated as joint clerk.
