Pte Baxter of Quadring, Pte Fuller of Sutterton and Pte Ladbrook of Holbeach were among the local soldiers who had given their lives for their country 100 years ago.

News of Pte Ladbrook’s death was received by his wife, who was living in Helpringham, in a letter from Capt Reginald Scorer of the Lincolns.

The captain wrote they were involved in “dangerous operations” when Pte Ladbrook was killed by a German sniper’s bullet, dying “nobly, in giving his life.”
