Holbeach Hospital and Nursing Home also offers a number of clinics and day care, with between six and eight elderly people attending four days a week.
There is a staff of about 90 working full and part-time at all hours of the day and night, and some of them regularly raise funds – they bought the mini bus that is used for day care patients. There is also what manager Loraine Wigston calls “an enormous army of volunteers”.
The hospital is also supported by the League of Friends which, since 2009, has had its own shop in the town, raising more than £35,000 annually.
Loraine says: “With the League of Friends being there the patients don’t want for anything. I only have to phone and it will be there. The hospital fundraisers and the League complement the high standards of care we offer.”
In addition, donations, legacies and bequests from people in the community help staff go “the extra mile” for patients.
