For retired land workers Morris (81) and Gloria (77) Johnson of Wilders Garth, Holbeach, there is no secret to a long and happy marriage.
Despite 60 special years together, with the fruit of two children and four grandchildren, all Morris and Gloria would point to as the main ingredient of their successful wedlock was “it’s all about giving and taking.

Morris said: “We went to school in Fosdyke together when we were both six or seven.
“Then Gloria left the village when her parents moved and I never saw her again until we were working next to each other on a farm, pulling and topping sugar beet.
“Our love for each other was almost instant, but Gloria gave me a run for my money because she never used to turn up for dates at the pictures in Holbeach.
“All the men I knew would say ‘you’ll never get a date with her’ until one night when I went to the pictures on my own, only for us to end up walking out of the cinema at the same time.”
Morris and Gloria were finally married at All Saints Fosdyke Church in July 1956 and they exchanged wedding vows again on each of their 25th, 40th, 50th and 60th anniversaries together.
Gloria said: “We’ve not got a secret to spending 60 years together, except that it’s all about giving and taking.”
“We really love each other and even when I go up into town, I’m lost without Morris.”
Morris himself said: “I could have gone all over the world but I’d never have imagined a better woman than Gloria.”
