A PUB cooked up a storm for charity by hosting a hog roast.

Regulars at The Chequers in Gedney Dyke helped staff and management boost the coffers of two good causes.

Half of the proceeds went to Cancer Research UK, while the other half – £620 – was handed over to Spalding and District branch of British Heart Foundation.

The money will go towards the British Heart Foundation nurses service which provides those who have undergone heart surgery at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, with fully trained staff who can offer tailored support when they return home.

Some of the cash will also go towards funding research.

BHF branch chairman Keith Woods said: “The hog roast went very well and was well supported and we are delighted to receive this money which will help us to continue providing this vital service for people in the local area.”
